Experience Old Delhi by bike, intense and full of history.

The Shah Jahan Tour is DelhiByCycle’s classic recipe for an exhilarating glimpse into the life and times of the great Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan and the 1500 acre expanse of his capital – Shahjahanabad. At the time of its construction in the 17th Century, it was arguably, the most prosperous and beautiful city in the world. On this Old Delhi bike tour, you will see glimpses of the past

Today, when you pass through its four-hundred-year-old web of alleys held together with great big meshes of electric cables and infused with the smell of brewing tea and simmering breakfast curry, you see a mind-boggling co-existence of the past and the future, competing for your attention.

Emerging from this rainforest, thick with traditional architecture- typical of Shah Jahan’s time, you will find yourself in a Delhi of another time while you also see the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, the Spice Market and tranquil Civil Lines, the former British colonial area as a sharp contrast to hectic Old Delhi.

This Old Delhi bike tour is here to give you all these experiences. Come to experience Old Delhi with our Shah Jahan tour.

We choose the most famous movie house in the old city, Delite Cinema, as our meeting point. Located at Asaf Ali Road near Turkman Gate, one of the remaining entrance gates in Old Delhi. Every driver should know the place! Opposite the cinema is car parking. Walk inside after crossing the street (few steps down) and follow the lane leading inside the parking area. Once you are there, you can’t miss the orange bicycles. Welcome!

Great choice! The Shah Jahan tour is our classic Old Delhi route, all highlights of Shah Jahanabad are included and much more.

Also the tour it all started with. At that time, we are talking about 2009, I was still working as the South Asia correspondent for De Telegraaf (Netherlands’ daily newspaper).  Looking for a new challenge in life

I started exploring Old Delhi on a bike.

It was a total blast! The best experience I ever had. So many impressions, colors, smells, beautiful faces, amazing architecture and great history. All clustered within the century-old city walls. Not always easy, sometimes difficult how to deal with poverty and local street life. After cycling for two months I finally designed the best possible route. I gave up my journalism career and jumped into the deep called Delhi By Cycle.

A choice I never ever regretted. I hope you will enjoy this tour as much as I did when exploring the streets of Old Delhi.

What an amazing way to see Old Delhi. Jeswin was an energetic, knowledgeable guide who made the day fun for everyone (even though it poured rain for the majority of the ride!). When the trip was over, they invited us back to the office to dry off and some members of our group ended up talking for almost an hour. True hospitality and an eye opening experience. Thanks again.

I have to say that within the first minutes of my cycle, I was thinking I am not going to make it as the streets are chaotic and I definitely think you need to have cycling experience to handle it. Yet if you do and learn to let go, you start to discover the beauty of Delhi. Himanshu is amazing! His love for the city shines through him that it was impossible for it not to start rubbing on you as well. He has great knowledge of India and has even gone out of his way to book us train tickets. Thank you for making it possible to capture and save on our memories the beauty of Delhi Himanshu!

Thank you! We did the Shah Jahan Tour with you in April 2018 and it was one of the best Delhi experiences we had! I can highly recommend to push aside all concerns about the chaotic traffic – we were guided safely and had the chance to see places we would never have discovered by our own. Especially standing on the roofs of the spice market was a moment I´ll never forget.

We did the Shah Jahan Tour with you in November 2018. Together with 3 guys from the US we had a wonderful time with great experiences (spice market, tea and biscuits in the street, mutton Korma at Karim). The traffic is at is is but no danger at any time. Many thanks!

We saw Delhi in a way we would have never seen it by ourselves. Thanks for the great start into the day and your support Ishmira and Mukesh!

I met Shah Jahan guides Prahlad and Ishmirta at dawn on a brisk New Year’s Day, and they proceeded to take us on a fascinating, informative, and fun tour of the old city. Attentive and patient, they went at our speed, and there was no question for which they didn’t have an answer. Great tour guides, great company. Highly recommended.

This is an experience I won’t soon forget. The streets and alleyways of Old Delhi are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. There was a market selling flowers that was bright and colourful. We learned a lot about the people of Old Delhi, both past and present. We also learned how to use our bells to let people know we’re behind them lol! Of course, the highlight was eating at Karim’s restaurant, delicious and filling! Thanks DBC, hope I can come back one day to take the other tours!

We were four Belgian students who did the Shah Jahan tour, guided by Deepika. We all came to the same conclusion that we would never have discovered Old Delhi by our own in this way. It was a really enriching experience and Deepika was the perfect guide for us! Thanks to Deepika and Raju!

Background – solo Malaysian dude, moderate cycling ability, used to motorcycling on busy Malaysian streets.

You will not find a better way to explore Old Delhi than on bicycle! Priyam and Mukesh were amazing guides, and they really brought me on an adventure. This is not some typical road-riding trip -we literally bumped shoulders with the locals as we tore through the ancient back-alleys. It felt like an off-roading experience at one point as we went through cobbled roads and potholes! The chai (tea) break by the roadside and breakfast at Karim’s really capped it off.

Worth it. Really distinctive way of experiencing Old Delhi; well planned and well conducted by Pryiam and Raj.

This was my second trip with Delhicycle and just as good as the first one (Nizamuddin Tour).
